Default 2nd Knaggs NGD: Awesome Keya in Spalted Maple!!

Okay, so I dug the SSC so much that I jumped into another Knaggs right away. I have been thinking about something with 24 Frets, but with a Gibson sort of scale, a stoptail, and nice beefy neck, with Mahogany Neck and Body and Rosewood Board.

I was looking at the Knaggs Keya's, and when I saw this one with the Spalted Maple with the Turquoise stone in the top, I totally dug it! At first I did not care for the body shape, but it has really grown on me so far. I get it now, sort of an SG sort of thing, with symmetrical horns, but with Joe's unique lines and shapes that he does, that I am starting to really like across their product line.

It plays and sounds GREAT!! Honestly, while the SSC checks all the right juvenile Rock and Roll and Les Paul boxes, I think I like this one a little better. It is sort of like an SG on Steroids, without the bad geometry and neck heaviness.

6.6 pounds, super lightweight, thin body. Great neck carve, not nearly as beefy as the '59 SS carve on the SSC, but still in the beefy camp.

These SD Seth Lover pickups sound great!

Having fun checking out 2 Knaggs guitars this week!!

P.S. Thank you to my new friend Garett at Boxcar Guitars!

    Mike:

I guess at that time I was pretty closed minded, just focused on 24.5" scaled PRSi, and didn't really give it a chance. As soon as I felt the smaller frets, the flatter board, and the lack of Maple Binding, I wasn't loving it.

But I guess that has changed for me a bit. I am finding it not so hard to adapt quickly to the slightly different scale lengths, neck carves and frets.

I am really digging these 2 Knaggs, nice to mix it up a bit!

This Keya has really grown on me! Quite frankly, I think it is my favorite of the 4 Knaggs I recently added to my collection.

It sounds AWESOME, 6.6 pounds and a thin body, but it is a TONE MONSTER! The Knaggs dealers I spoke to all seem to speak very kindly of the Keya model.

As I said above, visually I never cared for this shape, but now I find it to be pretty attractive, a very cool and unique shape!

It plays awesome as well. Nice chunky neck shape, but much smaller than the Knaggs "59" shape on the SSC and the Chena. Upper fret access is phenomenal.

Love that spalted top with the blue!

Another great looking guitar! I've seen quite a few of these spalted tops with turquoise or chrysocolla inlays and was wondering how they did it. Looks cool as all get out! Congrats on another one!
