Default Mastering

Apart from my guitar purchasing sickness, my other music hobby is noodling with electronic music and recording software etc.

One aspect of this that I'd like to get better skilled at is mixing/mastering. I have some pretty high end plugins etc (UAD Manley Passive, UAD Neve stuff etc etc). Problem is that I'm limited by the style of music I tend to create (synth noodling).

So, if any Vintage Rockers out there have any recordings they'd like to let me have go at processing I'd be happy to try. Free etc, just dont blame me if you hate the results I can be trusted not to rip off anyone's work etc.

How I would envisage it working is; you upload either 'stems' (i.e. individual channels from a recording) or a stereo mix to me, I'll try and master it and you can download the results. It would have to be WAVs etc as MP3s just wont cut it quality wise.

Just an idea. If anyone fancies giving it a go, PM me.

cheers

Might take you up on that... Mastering is one of my weaknesses!

Do you take Sonar bundles?

Afraid I dont use sonar. I use Ableton Live. But if Sonar has a render to stems option?

Define "render to stems". Is that sending you each bus separately?

I suppose I could send you individual tracks in wav format, but you wouldn't be able to tweak the effects that way. Or I can send you a stereo wav mix, and you can master from that.

What's your preference? I'd be curious to see how Handle Me With Care would sound with your mastering vs mine!

Peace,
Aldwyn

Well, my main aim is to just experiment a bit. That could be anything from a so-called 're-mix' to just a mastering of the stereo mix. My goal is to try and improve my skills with some of the modern tools such as EQs etc. My own music is all synth based so is very different from mixing 'traditional' instrumentation.

I dont want to put you to too much trouble. Theres a good chance I'll fail miserably and you will hate the results So possible routes would be (probably from most to least work)

a) Render each track to WAV with no effects enabled.
b) Render each track to WAV with effects present.
c) Render a stereo mix with no master effects
